Tumblr V Real Blogging

Sexy
Things I like about Tumblr:
No effort forward, click and reblog pictures.

Things I miss about LJ:
The community.

Srsly. I write things on Tumblr and maybe, MAYBE I get one "like". Questions go unanswered. Feels only reciprocated when you see other people's postings who might have similar feels to you. I mean, I just think back to when I had my fanfiction plagiarized and how many people on LJ stepped forward to defend me and to report the person to FF.net. Tumblr just wouldn't be there unless I had some sort of social injustice and a billion friends to reblog my post and sob story.

...sorry, just feeling a bit "meh' tonight.

Also, hi, sorry for not being here for nearly a year.

Kate!!!

I agree, it's much harder to have a conversation on Tumblr and it just feels so much less intimate and friendly because it's so public. :/ It does have pretty things though.

(P.S. I still haven't forgotten I owe you a letter.)

It DOES have pretty things. And I do enjoy the pretties.

(ack, I thought it was me that owed you a letter! I responded to it? I don't even remember. hahahaha)

Oohhh, okay! Well, you should also be receiving a post card/Christmas post card in the mail, as well. I decided to jazz up all the post cards I bought in Europe for the holidays. :-p

Hello! How's life? I hope you're feeling less meh now. And what happened with the plagiarism btw?

LJ is so quiet it's seriously sad. I think the only way to actually get more than one like on Tumblr is to become a BNF. Or befriend a BNF and made them reblog your posts, idk. ~popularity!

Life is coming around; I think a big source of my funk for these past few weeks has been the joy of job hunting. Woohoo... Hopefully that'll be over soon!

As for the plagiarism, this user had copied and pasted my story "Secret Kisses" as her own and a crazy amount of people (even friends in real life) reported the story, sent shaming comments on the reposted story, and continued to make a big stink about it until it was removed and the account removed. THEN s/he created ANOTHER account and did the same thing! The user was even reposting other people's stories and RPF's, which aren't even allowed on FF.net. Fandom came to the rescue again and the account was deactivated.

Yeah, I've noticed the crickets over here... I've started to use Dreamwidth and just have my entries copied here, as well. Not sure why I use Dreamwidth. It's really not that different... 'cept with less active users, if that's possible. *sigh* Where did our community go?

Btw, what's a BNF?

*crosses fingers* Job hunting is ugh...

Fandom came to the rescue again and the account was deactivated.

Hmm, I remember that first part, now you say it -- but not that she made a second account, what?! I'd hoped she had apologised to your and the others and removed her account, but making another one to post the stolen stories again, just... what?! I'm so happy it was taken down.

Not sure why I use Dreamwidth. It's really not that different... 'cept with less active users, if that's possible. *sigh* Where did our community go?

That's my take on dreamwidth as well. It almost never goes down, though, which is a plus.

And argh, yeah, I miss the community. You could make friends on LJ... other places not so much. :( Everyone's suddenly disappeared in like two years, idk where they went. (If they're on Tumblr, they're hiding. The Clara fandom is basically entirely on Tumblr, and I swear, it's made up of people aged 13-18. They complain about homework and siblings and parents who don't understand and I feel ancient at 26, lol. Although I suppose the less vocal Clara fans could be older and on Tumblr, I'll just never see them because no one reblogs their stuff because they're not popular enough. *cries*)

Btw, what's a BNF?
Big Name Fan, you know the person who's always getting their fic recced all over the place and who's user name everyone knows? I'd tell you the "obvious" ones in Eleven/Amy and Doctor/River fandom, but people don't want to be called BNFs b/c it's not really positive and I don't want to call anyone out.

Here, have a rant, as well -- the BNFs on Tumblr seem to have more "power" than LJ ones. They have thousands and thousands of followers and they're treated like LJ comms, except they're one person... people are asking them about air dates and actor's lives and fic recs and stuff and when they answer people take their word for it, only read the fic they reblog and stuff. (A BNF could say, like, "I think Eleven only wears a red bowtie on Tuesdays" and everyone's like "ohhh, I didn't know that".) It's like one person running the fandom... at least with LJ comms anyone could jump in. It just feels wrong to go on someone's personal Tumblr and reblog their stuff and add "actually Eleven wears a red bowtie whenever he feels like it" and no one will see that reply anyway.

Um, so that's why you should hope a BNF reblogs your posts. Haha, sorry, I have a lot of feelings re: Tumblr. :P

It almost never goes down, though, which is a plus.

Ya know, I think that's where a lot of people stopped using LJ. Remember a year or so ago when LJ was down for, like, two weeks or something? It was such spotty service no one could log in and actively use their accounts. I know that that was when I really dropped off of using LJ.

They complain about homework and siblings and parents who don't understand and I feel ancient at 26, lol.

OMG I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN. hahahahaha People talking about school and I'm trying to relate, going, "ooh, what's their major? I can talk to them about college horror stories" and then I find out that by "school" they meant high school. O_o I feel like there is a very slim margin of us users who are 25 years and older and therefore, can't relate. ...You know, I wonder if that's why Tumblr is so popular with the young 'uns. [okay i'm gonna start wagging my cane] I feel like the young generation of today have become more and more isolated, yet simultaneously crave popularity. They want people liking their individual posts on Facebook and they're nose-deep in their phones while out with friends, but on the other hand, they want ALL THE FRIENDS on Facebook and Tumblr and Twitter and whatever. What ever happened to communities? Neighborhood kids who played together or hell, online communities that squee'd together? I miss my online community.

...whoops. Sorry. I think my "young 'uns" rant matched your BNF rant. But yes, I've totally seen exactly what you described for BNF. I've actually contacted some "BNF"s in the past and I've almost got condescending responses like I don't know what I'm talking about. =/ Ugh. Let's do a LJ revival.

Unrelated: love your icon. *wibbles* Maybe I should update mine if we're gonna do a revival...

Oh, yeah, I'd forgotten that, but now I remember it I think you're 100% right! People just gave up...

I feel like there is a very slim margin of us users who are 25 years and older and therefore, can't relate.

OH SO TRUE. The young ones can't relate to us either, sadly. (I saw someone make a post about how they turned 32 or something and they immediately got like ten reblogs where people went "O_o whaaaaat you're my mom's age?! And you still like Doctor Who? WHAAAAAAAAT o_O"

Where have all twenty-somethings + older ppl gone to? Twitter? I mean, they're not on LJ and also not on Tumblr.

I miss my online community.
Agreed so much. :(

...whoops. Sorry. I think my "young 'uns" rant matched your BNF rant.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one shaking my cane here, lol. It was a good rant and I agree with you. That's probably exactly why Tumblr's so popular with them...

I've actually contacted some "BNF"s in the past and I've almost got condescending responses like I don't know what I'm talking about. =/ Ugh.
Oh, man, that's the worst thing! *gag* One person's opinion is worth as much as someone else's. *grumbles*

Unrelated: love your icon. *wibbles* Maybe I should update mine if we're gonna do a revival...
It's my new favourite! And we should definitely try doing a revival! Um... any ideas? You want some friend suggestions?

...Guess I'm not reviving LJ. >_< Two months late, woohoo.... Just wanted to comment on:

Glad you're still around, though! :D

They didn't *really* say that, did they? hahaha
I'm pretty sure they did. If not, it was heavily implied, sadly. As was (paraphrased) "I would never have guessed you were that old/You're much funnier than my mom/I hope I'm like you when I'm your age/Can you make a post about how to tell if a boy likes you or not?" LOLOLOL
